You know, I haven’t given couture much of a thought since about 2011. Back then, I had an extremely pretentious Tumblr and thought wearing Jeffrey Campbell Litas to high school was an acceptable substitute for a real personality so suffice it to say I spent a lot of time scrolling through handmade avant-garde pieces. But these insane dresses from Viktor and Rolf might resurrect the fashion victim within me yet.
Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren titled this collection Fashion Statements. “To what extent can you say something with clothing, literally,” they said backstage.
Their studio had imagined 18 outstanding, outsize dresses constructed entirely in brightly hued tulle: some with puffed sleeves, others with tiered skirts, all very colorful and very voluminous. And, well, each creation spoke for itself.
Look at these meme-dresses, the most relevant Viktor and Rolf has been since they put out that Flowerbomb perfume your college nemesis can’t get enough of:
They just keep coming...controversial, mean and sweet... take your pick
It’s the kind of message you find on social media, with the same instant feeling,” designer Rolf Snoeren said during a preview of the collection, according to WWD.
All these statements that are so obvious or easy — there’s a lot of banality on Instagram and social media in general — are counterbalanced with this over-the-top, shimmery, romantic feeling,” he added.
They might not be for the wallflowers amongst us, but they sure do get the message across loud and clear. And people have taken to Twitter to share their love for the new look.
Trust me, there's a dress to fit your every mood.

Can a nominee please wear this to the 2019 Oscars?

Me at work tomorrow:
God, can you smell the late 00s nostalgia yet?
That one's what I wish I had one when my friend yells "Say wassup to Insta!" while my head's in the toilet. But alas, I am 5'1" and desperately poor.
Turning up to ALL your weddings in this #viktorandRolf
When your friend says "It's just a small get together, dress casual"
When he doesn't text you back in .03 seconds:
And finally, we have this full sentence.
Altogether, the collection showcased Viktor & Rolf in the brand’s finest, sweet-meets-sinister form. As a fashion statement, it was ironic in attitude; historically inspired and Pop in presentation; detail-obsessed and sophisticated in execution.
It’s 2019, so speak your mind (through fashion).
