For those unaware that a live-action Bleach film was in the works, this should come as unexpectedly exciting or concerning news, depending on how strongly you feel about live-action anime adaptations.

Warner Bros.

Like it or not, Bleach will release its first live-action romp this year. Warner Bros. Japan is slated to debut its film of the supernatural series in 2018, and fans just learned the exact date it will be dropping.

Hitting screens later this year in the summer, the trailer teases one of the anime’s most famous scenes: the night that Ichigo and Soul Reaper Rukia meet.

So, you better get your calendars out. Bleach will ghost into theatres starting on July 20, 2018- and it looks amazing.

The Deadly Characters

Warner Bros.

Tite Kubo’s Bleach is on its way, where Rukia will be played by Hana Sugisaki, who has appeared on-screen as Rin Asano in Blade of the Immortal and as a voice actress in Mary and the Witch’s Flower (Mary) and When Marnie Was There (Sayaka).

Sugisaki joins Sota Fukushi (Library Wars), who plays Ichigo Kurosaki.

It’s directed by Shinsuke Sato, who has helmed many manga adaptations, including Gantz, I Am A Hero and Death Note: Light Up the New World.

For the Japanese live-action version, I feel that we have come close to the original work,” Kubo said. “I am really looking forward to it."

If you have missed the Sujigaki…...

In case you’re under the impression Bleach is a manga about washing white clothing, here’s a synopsis courtesy Viz Media:

Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but this ability doesn’t change his life nearly as much as his close encounter with Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper and member of the mysterious Soul Society. While fighting a Hollow, an evil spirit that preys on humans who display psychic energy, Rukia attempts to lend Ichigo some of her powers so that he can save his family; but much to her surprise, Ichigo absorbs every last drop of her energy. Now a full-fledged Soul Reaper himself, Ichigo quickly learns that the world he inhabits is one full of dangerous spirits and, along with Rukia–who is slowly regaining her powers–it’s Ichigo’s job to protect the innocent from Hollows and help the spirits themselves find peace.

The Sad Part

Warner Bros.

There are no plans to bring it to North America yet, but considering how popular and beloved the original manga and anime series are, don’t give up hope. (Never mind we have torrents, … who cares whether it will be released in USA soon or not)
